Foundation Funding for Food Bank to Improve Community Wellbeing

For many communities in need of support, food banks are a vital resource to provide access to nutrition, education, and advocacy. The DRI Foundation seeks out such organizations for the positive impacts their services bring, including Food For People, the Humboldt County Food Bank.

Food For People has been in operation since 1979, expanding its efforts from its beginnings at a local residence to its current location, which was built following a $6.2 million capital campaign. Its services include:

  • Countywide Pantry Network – 23 food pantries are available throughout the county to assist residents experiencing food insecurity
  • Senior Programs – Grocery deliveries for seniors and homebound individuals
  • Child Nutrition – Backpacks For Kids provide weekend and summer break meals for eligible children whose primary source of food may be provided by their schools
  • Nutrition Education – A searchable database of recipes and classes encourages residents to learn more about preparing healthy meals

“These essential resources provide many people in our community with the food they need to stay healthy and independent, while also helping them allocate their limited funds toward other important expenses,” writes Carl Robbins, Executive Director, in the organization’s newsletter. “Food for People is committed to ensuring no one in our community goes without food. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we’re prepared to adapt to any challenges that lie ahead and we hope you will join us in the fight against hunger in Humboldt County.”

The DRI Foundation is proud to provide support and vital financial assistance to such nonprofit organizations to aid their missions in communities where they are needed. Click here to learn more about how you can help.
