Did you know one in four children in northeast Arkansas don’t know where their next meal is coming from? The Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas is working to change that, with help from a donation from the DRI Foundation.
Arkansas currently ranks first in the nation for food insecurity, according to the USDA, with 21% facing hunger each day. Since 1983, the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas has been providing hunger relief to its population by securing resources, raising awareness, and working with a network of regional non-profits to distribute food.
The Foundation’s donation supports one of its most important efforts, the Backpack Program. Nutritious and easy to prepare foods are discreetly distributed to children at their schools, to bring home on weekends and holidays when other resources may not be available. Each week of the school year, the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas distributes over 1,050 packs to children in need.
“We feel privileged that you selected our project to support out of so many wonderful causes,” said project leader Rebecca Hendrix. “By adding your donation, you’ve become a part of our community of supporters, and we’re thrilled to have you on the team.”
