Philly Phood!

Clydes Corner Philly Phood March 6 2013Spending time in Philadelphia allows you the opportunity to experience history, art, music, and phabulous phood.  So, this week I’m sharing a few hints and tips about the phood of Philly. I’ll share a meal with you too – at DRI2013 in June!

The phoodies among you may be tempted to dismiss Philly as a one-dish city, but in reality, Philadelphia puts the “ph” in phoodies and offers phar more than the Philly cheesesteak (more on that next week!).  The restaurant scene near the conference hotel and the Convention Center is  a vibrant one with the Reading Terminal Market nearby offering many fresh, local options. In addition to the bustling market and the great variety of foods it offers, consider some of the following to satisphy your palate:

The Sahara Grill will satisfy for Middle Eastern food.
Alma De Cuba for Cuban style food with great Mojitos.
Try Bistro St. Tropez for French food with a view of the Schuylkill River and the Philadelphia Art Museum.
The Capital Grille features steaks and seafood and can accommodate groups for private dining.
In the mood for Mexican food? Try El Vez for new and traditional Mexican dishes.
Estia is a place for traditional Greek food.
Maggiano’s is a popular Italian restaurant near our conference location.
If seafood is your thing and you like large chain type restaurants then McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood & Steaks will satisfy.
Morimoto is a beautiful Japanese restaurant where the food is presented beautifully as well.
Morton’s and Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse will provide great steaks and business atmosphere.
Osteria is one of the most popular Italian restaurants with good reason.
Palace at the Ben is an Indian restaurant set inside the Ben Franklin House of Philadelphia.
Pheeling like phondue? Then, the Melting Pot won’t disappoint.
Tir Na Nog provides Irish classic fare with occasional Irish music.

So, while you ponder where to make your June dinner reservations, I’ve got a question for you:

Can you tell me where the following foods are from: clam chowder, fish tacos, Cuban sandwich, Nathan’s Hot Dogs, and soft pretzels? Send me your answers, and let me know what food your city is famous for.

Have a great week,
