Financial Assistance Provided to Help Victims of Flooding in Brazil

In May 2024, extreme flooding hit southern Brazil, forcing the evacuation of whole cities as roads and bridges were destroyed. In the aftermath, at least 150 died with hundreds more unaccounted for. With input from the Women in BCM Committee’s Brazil chapter, the DRI Foundation identified Ação da Cidadania to receive much-needed support.

Ação da Cidadania is the largest organization to combat hunger in Brazil, having helped more than 30,000,000 Brazilians across the country since 1994 by distributing the equivalent of 300,000,000 plates of food. Its main “axis of action” is an extensive mobilization network formed by local committees of community leaders, with participation from all social sectors.

“When someone’s life is affected by catastrophes, such as heavy rains that leave entire families homeless and people missing, it is urgent to bring food, water and basic products to those who have lost everything,” the organization said in a statement on its website.

Beyond its emergency support for those impacted by the flood, its other programs focus on:

  • Food and Food Security
  • Citizenship
  • Cultural Performance
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Leadership Training

The DRI Foundation is proud to provide support and vital financial assistance to such nonprofit organizations to aid their missions in communities where they are needed. Click here to learn more about how you can help.
