Lisa Maurer is Senior Vice President with Siegel & Stockman, a recipient of the DRI Foundation’s Women in BCM Scholarship, and as a result, a certified ABCP with DRI International.
“I am looking to my second career, currently enrolled at American Military University in the Emergency management course,” Maurer said about her interest in the WBCM Scholarship. “After speaking with female leaders in that field I have discovered business continuity and I feel with my thirty years in logistics, retail, sales, marketing, that this will be a natural fit for me.”
What is your professional background? How did you get here?
My background is in retail design, I am SVP of an international mannequin manufacturer. I have been in design and marketing for the last thirty years. After living in NYC through 9/11, I found myself always thinking about the planning and organization of a disaster. I decided to make this interest into a second career by going back to school for a degree in emergency management.
What does DRI certification mean to your life?
A certification would give me the credibility to reach for opportunities in business continuity.
What made you interested in business continuity?
I am a natural planner, I like to work through possibilities and preparedness. It is satisfying to have a game plan to share.
Do you have any life experience that makes this field especially compelling?
Living in NYC for more than 30 years, what have we not endured? Just in your own household you need to have a plan for personal continuity. In my work, I have always needed to problem solve, I really love the puzzle of finding all the possible outcomes and finding the best path.
