As Food Insecurity Increases, the People’s Pantry Meets the Demand

The DRI Foundation is proud to support the efforts of the People’s Pantry in western Massachusetts as it steps up its efforts to feed a community rocked by the pandemic.

For over 20 years, the People’s Pantry has worked to reduce hunger in the Southern Berkshire, MA area by distributing food in a manner which preserves the dignity and sense of self-worth of the shoppers. During the pandemic, the pantry has pivoted its approach to serve more people more efficiently, increasing hours and operations, and seeking out new food sources.

“It used to be we were serving people on fixed incomes, but now we’re seeing young families where their employment has completely ended, and they might have a couple of kids,” Anne Hutchinson, director of operations, told the Berkshire Eagle. She also noted that the average family size of the pantry’s clients has nearly doubled.

The DRI Foundation is proud to support such nonprofit organizations in communities impacted by disasters to provide crucial assistance. 100 percent of the money collected for the Global Pandemic Fund will go to small, local organizations that are an integral part of their communities. Click here to donate.
