I know I promised you cheese steaks, but I figured I should make sure you know how to work them off before I tell you where
to find them! I’m all about planning! This week, I phocus on phitness in Philly. Philadelphia is a city with plenty to see, plenty of walking to do, and many other exercise-related fun activities to keep you on your path to fitness. Let’s take a look at some of those activities:
The Race Street Pier offers long walking paths alongside the Delaware River. Part of Philadelphia’s great outdoor spaces, the new Race Street Pier on the Delaware River Waterfront is a great way to take in the outdoors right in the heart of the city. Located not far from the Benjamin Franklin Bridge, the Pier has two levels for your recreational pleasure. The upper terrace is 12-feet high and provides a great vantage point for sightseeing and people watching. The lower terrace offers seating areas, walking, and a beautiful place to enjoy the view or watch the sunset.
If walking with a destination in mind is more your thing, try the AudioWalk and Tour of Historic Philadelphia. Walk briskly to achieve a cardio workout or meander slowly and stop to study the history that surrounds you. Walk at your own pace and enjoy the sights and sounds of Philly.
Want to bike around the city? Try Breakaway Bikes where you’ll find all types of bicycles for rent to tour the city. They are located in Center City for a convenient place to get your rental. The folks at Breakaway bikes will direct you to a bike lane just outside the shop that gets you on your way towards Schuylkill Banks and the River Trail. Philly Phact: there are 205 miles of bike lanes in this bike-friendly city.
Want to forget you are walking and exercising? Visit America’s first zoo: The Philadelphia Zoo. This 42- acre park offers a great way to see wildlife up close and personal while walking in beautiful surroundings.
And you can always channel your inner movie star and run the 72 steps of the east entrance of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The “Rocky Steps” will surely test your endurance, and when you reach the top — arms raised in triumph — you will be treated to a great view of Center City.
